Anubis, originally the god of all things relating to death, had to step aside when Osiris became popular, so he lost his God of Death status. However, Anubis retained his connection to mummification and the action of dying, and so he was still a hugely popular god. He was also in charge of determining who got in to Aaru (Egyptian heaven).

Aaru! I didn't know that! Two people I know come from the swiss city of Aarau... That amuses far too much.
